52 - East meets west

Labels:

I'm a British Born Vietnamese.

In Vietnamese, as with many oriental languages we don't have the letter "R" and whenever Vietnamese pronounce R, they replace it with the closest letter, which is "L". Which is why I worry about the Chinese democratic system, as the Chinese never have elections.

Coming from south London, it is the tendency of folk around here to drop the letter "H" in words, especially when they appear at the start. Over in the East End they would refer to our health system as the National Elf Service, which is good for the vertically challenged.

Sadly, I have inherited both of these traits from both nature and nurture. Coupled with the fact that my name is Andrew Hoang, with a prominent R and an initial H, I guess that leaves me pretty badly off doesn't it...

I'm from Boston, Massachusetts, where we DO have the letter "r," but often replace it with a "h" sound :-) For example "car" is "cah."
