A few postcards involving my two loves: music and science! :)

I took another crack at watercolors this week, and also sent off this cheeky white postcard to Ohio. :)

I've got to stop falling behind. Luckily, now that I've got this week out of the way, things shouldn't be too tough for a while. ^^ Also, the new glue stick works great! I was afraid that it would be bad because it was so cheap, but it worked like a charm.

Once again, borrowing images from some old Augustana yearbooks. I could flip through them for hours, wondering about their lives... how weird. The cheerleader doesn't really look that washed out - man, I really need to invest in a scanner.

Had a crazy weekend, but got to send out all new stuff anyway! I used up my big mega gluestick though, so I'll have to go shopping tomorrow. But it was worth it! I got to utilize lots of scraps and pictures that I've been meaning to paste together. ^-^

I recycled a paper CD album and some other stuff I found in my drawer to make this one. The CD wasn't too bad, but the lead singer was way too whiny.

Looking back on all of my entries, it is pretty clear that I am fond of that little bicycle stamp. :3 This one is off across the big blue Atlantic to a mail artist in London.

So over the weekend I got these really cheap "Victorian Cat" stickers, and I thought I would put them to good use! These two cards are off to Ria (in thanks for a lovely card I got on Monday) and to another mail artist who uses speech bubbles... Does anyone else recognize the lolcats? :)

A few sports-themed cards that are all headed north to Canada... I hope they get there safely! I took these images from an old college yearbook from 1957. The campus library was giving away the extra documents they had found in their collection, and I snapped up 4 old yearbooks and a ton of old music and newspapers. All are great inspiration for mailart!

012 and 013 are both made from some art that I made in Chinese Culture class last week. I love writing and painting on rice paper instead of computer paper - it feels so soft and authentic.
For 013, the pine needles reminded me of the spokes on my favorite bicycle stamp, and I had to put it on the card!

Hurray! Now that I'm back at college, I have full access to all of my rubber stamps, including the new little bluebird that came in the mail yesterday. Also, I just can't seem to keep my hands off of my red arrow sticker dispenser. They are all going to be gone within the month, for sure. :/

When you think of a scientist, do you think of a man or a woman? Unfortunately in today's society most people would think of a man. Women's rights have made lots of great strides for equality, but there are still some barriers, especially for women and ethnic minorities. I am pursuing a degree in science, and I hope to help break down some of those barriers! (I'm getting a degree in geology, hence why I couldn't help but throw in that dinosaur on the right)

What do you think? How can women be seen as equals? What steps can women take to make things better?

Here is a fanciful interpretation of the night sky. If, for a few nights, everything became literal, I think a lot more people would invest in telescopes. I know I would!

I tried not to make another collage, but I couldn't resist putting that purple stamp! I folded the paper, then traced the bubbles that appeared (the brown paper was glued to another piece of paper). the empty spaces show where my glue stick has been. I usually make a box and put an X through it.

Tomorrow I will back at my college dorm with all of my wonderful rubber stamps... I can't wait to bring them out!

And here is the REAL 007 Mail Art! I like the purple squiggly design - I've recently started to doodle shapes like that everywhere. It reminds me of a surreal melted chessboard or something.

Another collage that I whipped up from stuff I found around. I like this one too! Something about giraffes, I guess. On the other side I accidentally labeled it as the 7th card - oops! How can I be losing track of the days already?!

I reeeeally like this one! It is made from a cover of a fitness guide for 1962~!! I had forgotten that I had this, and finding it was a big eureka moment. I love having a messy room and finding hidden treasures. :) Even when I was little I would find money or toys that I would have squirreled away somewhere and forgotten about. It never gets old!

This one is off and across the Atlantic... I hope it gets there safely. I put it together using elements from my family vacation to Seattle last summer. Wonderful place - I want to visit again soon!

One of my favorite parts about mail art is how you can sit down with a picture in your head, and what comes off of your desk half an hour later looks completely different than what you imagined. It keeps me on my toes.
