#62 - It's All About Balance

Monday, January 31, 2011

This woman with the beautiful smile makes me smile. She does indeed have style.

She has so many apples in her basket! I wonder if she and her family get to eat those apples. Sometimes people who harvest produce can't afford to buy the same produce. I wish there was a way to find a balance between growing healthy, chemical and GMO-free food and keeping that production affordable. In the US organic foods are very expensive. I don't know if that is the case in the rest of the world, though. I hope this lady's beautiful smile is due in part to a healthy diet of fresh fruit and vegetables.

This is heading to Morrissey at college. I remember college being a bit unbalancing ... too many choices sometimes.

#59 - Lemon Weave

Friday, January 28, 2011
It's been a cold, wet week and I needed to play with bright colors. I've had the image of the girl in the flower dress for a long time and I'd like to own a dress like that ... long and lightweight with loose strands of flowers. I am way too old to carry off such a look, but sometimes I think I don't care.

I love all the postcard weaves I see on MailArt365 so I thought I'd try a partial weave, just the skirt into the lemon. I wish I had cut the skirt and lemon on a diagonal rather than straight across, but I like the idea of breaking into a weave. I tried a different version of that on this postcard I made for a Swap-Bot exchange.

This is Postcrossing US-984362 and on its way to Australia today. I was very lucky to pull the address of someone who encourages handmade yesterday!

#50 - The Party

Wednesday, January 19, 2011
This one is perhaps a bit crude, but I like it anyway. When I was sorting ephemera back in November 2010, I paired the Born Again Floozies (which I think is a local band) with the cherry sticker right away. The image of Estelle fell out of my "people" stash last week, and practically screamed "I'm a closet floozy!" So, she gets to debut on this postcard.

The seemingly obvious choice for this one is Sue, who also goes by McFloozy, BUT, I have made it my goal to send my MailArt365 to 365 different people, and I have already sent to Sue. So I'm sending this to the wonderful Wackystuff in Canada. I haven't written to him in ages and I'm sure I owe him.

#43 - Sour Grapes

Wednesday, January 12, 2011
I just love the expression on Green Dress Lady's face. She looks like she is telling Sable Coat Lady, "À boire ou je tue le chien!" (Bring me something to drink or I kill the dog!). Or, perhaps Sable Coat Lady walked in with Green Dress Lady's ex-husband.

The art is Toulouse Lautrec's "Beginning of the Quadrille at the Moulin Rouge." And I don't speak French ... I used this website for the French expression. It's a very interesting site. If I should ever go to France, I shall memorize a few of the phrases. Especially, "À boire ou je tue le chien!"

This postcard required the use of a hammer. My elderly cat stomped into the art room during said hammer use and gave me a look that can only be interpreted as "Why don't you go read a book, or write a letter. Something quiet." Talk about sour grapes. Geesh.

I'm sending this to Sarala in Illinois whose drooling gargoyle photo made me laugh.

#40 - Fruit Basket

Sunday, January 09, 2011

We have a three tier basket hanging in our kitchen. I love it because it keeps my garlic, onions and other non-perisibles where I can see them. If I put them in cabinets, I forget about them and end up buying stuff I already have. I've never stored fruit in them, though. I like my fruit nice and cold. Unless it is grapes, which should always be served from a bottle at just a bit cooler than room temperature.

This is going to a penfriend in Wisconsin. I have a have a long neglected postcard from her written back in late October that needs a glittery response. This postcard is very glittery.
