I was so pleasantly surprised to learn upon arrival in Australia that THE Christmas fruit that will be on every table are cherries and mangoes!! That isn't the only delight of Christmas in summer but one of my favorites. We're eating our fill of cherries now as they end their season because it is forecast that next year there will either not be any or they will be very dear, as they've been affected by the floods.This card, like the "!" is very large. It's the end of a cherry box and I just can't help sending big fruit cards to Andy.

Can you believe that on this day, B day, right before I sat down to make todays art I received a great card from none other than Boo?!Perfect!

64-365 February A
So, it just so happens that despite my calling them last year and requesting they not send it, the phone co. has delivered a Sydney phone book to my house!!! I was and am SO annoyed but I couldn't help thinking about how it coincided with February as alphabet month. So I'm using pages from the phone book in each letter card this month.

I looked around for a reminder about the February theme being the alphabet, but couldn't find the discussion. My memory is that the first day is an exclamation point and the last day a period. Is this correct? Well I hope so because I found a really big exclamation. Admittedly the only thing going for it really, is that it's so big it doesn't fit on my scanner. I took it from a big gig poster for a band who's name is "!!!" but hey, when it's 10:40 pm and 36 degrees celsius outside and in, one just doesn't quite feel up to working too hard.

Looks much nicer in person. I'm using gold and silver leaf joss paper and it doesn't scan very well. The picture which is from an old Eastern religions book didn't so hot either.

Can you believe this color of ink is called "Bordeaux Red"? Red, my foot. However, I much enjoy printing my hand on things. There will be more of this kind of thing in the future.I love this project for forcing me to think of new things and remember old things to do.

59-365 Sparks Fly
My, my that is a phallic pink airplane. It's more flesh colored in person.So, I've started working Monday through Friday and I've decided to make my daily pieces while it's slow at the knitting cafe. I have my travel MA kit but the raw image materials will come from whatever is on hand in the cafe.
I'm finding that I quite enjoy having a limited palette to work with. Sometimes at home there are so many materials that the possibilities are a bit overwhelming. Having to go out and find things is way more fun.
But that does make it hard for me to use up my stash, which I'm really trying to do before the big move......we'll see.
57-365 Happy Australia Day
Today is Australia day. It's like national BBQ day, in a country that already worships the BBQ.It's going to be 38 celsius, 100 F. So we'll be having some vegemite then heading down to the opera house, you know the one, for some free outdoor concerts.

Boy, it really pays to make your backgrounds ahead of time. It's 10:30 pm, we just had friends over for dinner and I realized I'd better not forget to make my MA for today and a quick few pictures thrown together will have to suffice. However, the watercolored backing I did ages ago makes it come much more alive.
55-365 Eat the rich
This morning I found myself at the breakfast table with the Environmental report for Bangladesh and the 'society' page of the Sydney Morning Herald side by side. I'll just say it was a bit sobering and sad. I was immediately reminded of this great mantra from the 60's or 70's.The picture of the woman weeding her subsistence plot is actually from the Bangladesh report.
And no, I'm not suggesting she's a cannibal, rather, that if these Aussie ladies had been grown up in a Bangladeshi subsistence garden their outlook might be a bit different.

Day 52 and I saw this etching of this woman in a music zine and I immediately thought of Martha and her head shaped cards. This woman's head is a very similar shape. In the same zine I found these other women, I combined them because there's a redhead at the center and I'm a redhead. I see it like this, Martha is the woman at the center, I'm at the left with other people, this group, and the stamp and airplane represent the MA365 group and project! It's a welcome card since she's new, if I can find her address.Now, please don't expect such literalness from me everyday, I don't usually roll like that.

It's amazing how much stuff one can find on the ground when one takes two trains to get to a major shopping mall.
I considered all of these things positive fodder when I picked them up but it wasn't until I got home that I realized that this adhesive fake moustache and eyebrows is neither disguised nor distinguished! I thought that spell checkers had made the Engrish mistakes at Chinese factories a thing of the past. Alas, no.
After Andy talked on his blog about finding money I decided that I would include the 5 cent piece that was sitting on the seat when I got back on the train. It's one of my favorite Aussie coins because it's an echidna wrapped around the number 5. Too cute.
